The Road Map of Life

"And she riseth while it is yet nightm and giveth meat to her household, and the day's work to her maidens." Proverbs 31 v 15 This scripture challenges me, how do I prepare and set my household up for the day?

I start my day by getting up [hopefully] before anyone else in the household, this is my time with the Lord uninterrupted. The highest priority on my list is believer on the Lord Jesus Christ- I know that, if I depend on Him, He is able despite all my human failings! I enjoy my morning HOT cup of coffee (If you have kids around the ages of mine you will understand this luxury!) while I read my Bible and I pray for guidance over the day, how to best use my time, for help, guidance and in dependence. My son is usually the next one to get up and on this particular day I was singing as I prepared breakfast for the family, "I'm using my Bible for a Road Map", he said "Mummy what are you singing" so we pulled up You Tube and watched this video.

I love this song and often find myself singing it as I wonder down the stairs or throughout the day so it wasn't really a surprise for my son to catch me, but, it was such a treat as this conversation unfolded! I sure gave thanks to God for my little man and the way that children can open things up for us in their simple way and that's what I will share here! In his 4 year old world the most important place to know the way to is home, so he spoke about the way that if the Bible is our road map then it must show us the way home. This made me realize how precious the Bible is; God's Word to me. Not that I didn't appreciate it and treasure it before this moment, but it gave me yet another level of appreciation. That's the beauty of the Bible; it's inexhaustible, we never have to worry about reading the final chapter and what am I going to do now; we can just keep on reading, digging, enjoying, discovering and growing- there is always more that we can find and appreciate and it will always be that way as the Spirit guides us! The Bible takes us on a journey.

- The destination it directs us to is Heaven; our eternal home. There's a song "This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through, my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue" It doesn't matter what we have in this world, it will pale before what is ahead of us in Heaven if we have trusted the Lord Jesus as our Savior! As the Bible says "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust spoils, and where thieves dig through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust spoils, and where thieves do not dig through nor steal; for where thy treasure is, there will be also thy heart." Matthew 6 v 19-21

- The Route is always the same (The Narrow Way): "Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it. For narrow the gate and straitened the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it." Matthew 7 v 13-14. Realization that I am a sinner, realizing that there is nothing that I can do myself, realizing that the Lord Jesus has paid the price for me when he shed his blood on the tree, asking for forgiveness and accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour and Lord is all that I can do.

The Bible is God's Word. Under the Spirit's guiding the Bible provides us with guidance along our Christian Journey until we go to be with Jesus face to face in Heaven, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalm 119 v 105.

The Bible teaches us that we are not alone on this journey, we have the Holy Spirit with us "but the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and will bring to your remembrance all the things which I have said to you." John 14 v 26. We spoke about google maps and how if you're not careful you could end up driving straight in to the ocean or rivers as google fails! We spoke about how maps need to be revised as new roads are made and roads get closed.

But the Bible isn't like that; it doesn't contradict itself, it doesn't lead us the wrong way, it doesn't change over time, it doesn't need updating... It always leads to Christ- we just have to follow it in dependence! I love this scripture in Hebrews, I visualise running a 100m sprint race, I know I can't look back to see how others are doing or look around and check things out as it costs me time, all that matters is passing that finish line. In our Christian pathway, with the Spirits help, we need to keep our focus on God's will. "Let us also therefore, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, laying aside every weight, and sin which so easily entangles us, run with endurance the race that lies before us, looking steadfastly on Jesus the leader and completer of faith: who, in view of the joy lying before him, endured [the] cross, having despised [the] shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12 v 1-3 It so happened I had a couple of customer deliveries to do after breakfast. As I was alone in the car I tuned in to AM1140 and listened to Intouch Ministries broad cast and what was the theme?! It was Our Trustworthy Guide, what a treat and you have no idea how thankful to God I am for the way that He brings in perfect guidance all through life! I trust that you find encouragement and reassurance in this message as I did: https://www.intouchcanada.org/listen/featured/our-trustworthy-guide-part-1 https://www.intouchcanada.org/listen/featured/our-trustworthy-guide-part-2 Be assured that I pray for every reader of this blog. God is guiding me and I am proving how able He is, He is able for you too. There's a line of a hymn that says "Simply trust Him, that is all."
